City council's closing comments from October 7th, 2007.
Most every councilperson touched upon the subject of the 0.25% income tax increase earmarked for public safety. Councilman Anthony Marconi said crime has risen 44% since 2000, a figure he quoted as "astronomical", and service calls for police and the fire department have gone up as well, while at the same time both departments have cut staff.
In response to resident accusations that city management hasn't made enough cuts, he claims that over $5 million dollars (20%) has been cut from the city's budget.
