Miami University of Middletown announces that as of September 2008, all Miami University campuses will be smoke-free. That means this will affect the campuses at Oxford, Hamilton, Middletown, and even the campus in Europe. Smoking on all university property, including sidewalks, athletic facilities, and any other open space on campus, will be prohibited. The only places to smoke on campus will be in designated areas near campus housing. In addition, Miami University will be offering programs to help students break their smoking habits. This action goes along with Ohio's ban on indoor smoking which began in December of 06.
Alex Solis, a student of Miami University of Middletown, says: "I think its a move in the right direction. I think that a ban on smoking would be beneficial because it would no longer pose as a threat to the health of students who don't smoke. Also, I hate the smell of smoke."
