The Chamber of Commerce hosts a question & answer session for the five candidates for the Middletown Board of Education. Three seats are open, and the candidates come from all walks of life.
Chris Fiora is General Manager of toll processing for MISA Metals in Middletown. He graduated from Middletown High School, has a wife and daughter in Middletown, and serves as a deacon for First Presbyterian Church.
Katie McNeil is an incumbent candidate for the school board, having already served for 12 years and previously being employed as an educator. She has a husband and three children in Middletown, and is active in many local organizations including Middletown Symphony and Girl Scouts.
John Sauter is retired Fire Chief of Middletown, his career with the department spanning 30 years. A graduate of Middletown High School and MUM alumni, Sauter is also active in the community with Middletown Safety Council, Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, and the Middletown Schools Musical Arts program. He has a wife and 2 daughters in Middletown, one of which is a Middletown High School graduate with the other currently enrolled as a Freshman.
AJ Smith is a 2007 graduate of Middletown High School, and is best known for his activism in passing the school levy this year, being student coordinator of the levy campaign and president of the Save Our Schools organization. AJ was active in extracurriculars in high school, and currently works at Pioneer in Springboro.
Reverend Greg Tyus has been senior pastor of United Missionary Baptist Church in Middletown since 1993, and is active in the community as co-founder and and board chair of MALACHI. He is also a member of the board of directors for United Way, and is a member of the Middletown Regional Hospital African American Scholarship Committee and many other local organizations. He also served in the past on the Middletown Board of Education, as Vice President.
