A study sponsored by the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) indicates that Miami University Middletown had an estimated $36.2 million dollar impact on the regional economy in Butler and Warren Counties in 2005-2006. The total figure comes from both money spent by the University as well as contributions and other types of revenue they brought into the region.
Miami University Middletown employed 358 people during the 2005-2006 school year, when combined with the income these employees received created an estimate 459 jobs total in Butler and Warren Counties.
Economic Director for the City of Middletown Bill Murphy had this to say about MUM: "As the economic impact study
shows, not only is MUM one of the city's top employers, it is also part of a
major economic engine in Butler and Warren Counties."
