Healthy Students make better learners! Seven of the twelve Middletown City Schools have received Buckeye Best Healthy Schools Awards from the Governor’s office. The awards recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to the health and wellness of their students and staff through the establishment of programs and policies that foster such goals. These include improving nutrition, increasing physical activity
and stopping or preventing the use of tobacco.
Each school addresses their goals in their building wellness plans. For example, Mayfield has the Ohio Extension office come in for 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders and do a week long nutrition education program. They were also able to obtain a mini-grant from Ohio Department of Health to provide healthy snacks for Parent Activity Center activities along with nutrition materials. Award winners include:
Highview Elementary (Gold award)
Mayfield Elementary (Gold award)
Middletown High (Gold award)
Rosa Parks Elementary (Gold award)
Stephen Vail Middle (Gold award)
Verity Middle (Silver award)
Wildwood Elementary (Gold award)
